Catching up on June…watch to see some beautiful new life!

Remember those maternity’s from last month?  We’ll this month we get to see some of the beautiful new life that comes from being pregnant.  I remember those last few months and I am not one that does pregnant well, but seeing the new babies make’s it’s all worthwhile.  Now I’m blessed with my little ones AND get to see my clients new little ones…and I get to sleep all night…well most nights.

This family is just adorable.  I know I say this often, but it melts my heart when I see dads that are sooo involved.  What a beautiful family…I know this is late, but congratulations…J’s.

Also, I am trying something different by posting storyboards instead of slideshows…please let me know what you think!! And email me if you’re comment doesn’t go through…(I got tired of going through all of the spam that seems to come from .ru addresses).

the H’s – isn’t she lovely? {Renton, WA}

When I look at the 2 girls this family has been blessed with that old Stevie Wonder song comes to mind.

Isn’t she lovely
Isn’t she wonderful
Isn’t she precious
Less than one minute old
I never thought through love we’d be
Making one as lovely as she
But isn’t she lovely made from love

Both of these girls were just beautiful!  Welcome, lil Miss A…..Hope you enjoy:

H’s, getting ready to welcome another member

I always say Seattle is 2 degrees of seperation. For such a big town, it seems everyone knows everyone. When Mrs. H emailed me, she reminded me that she is friends with 2 of my friends. One a close neighbor, with a beautiful family and the other, one of my best friends from college (in Southern California) that just happened to move up to the Seattle area to marry the man of her dreams. When she asked if I could come over to their home to photograph her family before they added another little girl, of course I agreed. Their little girl now is almost 20 months and I couldn’t help but focus on her too as she’s adorable…well the whole family is!

The N’s…cold and sunny!

I love this family. This is the third time I’ve shot them. The littlest one is a couple in my newborn gallery. Mom is adorable, dad puts up w/ me and the boys are so much fun. I hope you like them as much as I did.

The K’s, wow, bundle of energy!

I know and love the K’s. When I have a session of 2 brothers this age, I bring the wagon. Because a preK and a toddler makes for hard staying still type pictures. Mom had said she mostly wanted pics of them together because that’s the hardest for her. I love both the boys and I think we had a blast, but I have to say, I was exhausted driving home!! :)

The little P’s turn 2!

I know I say all of the time how much I love my clients. I really do.

If I don’t, we don’t keep working together (one of the advantages of having your own business).
I really love this family. I feel like we are part of the same family. Which makes taking their pictures (even when it’s 40 degrees and the girls aren’t too excited about it) soo much fun.

When we realized how cold the girls were, we went to their home and finished/warmed up. Mom really wanted the fall colors and I LOVE it when families have an idea of what they really want. I think we were successful!! Don’t you?

The E’s – some of my favorite people {Snoqualmie, WA}

I know I haven’t posted since May, which doesn’t give my clients a sense of “fame” and doesn’t give interested clients a view of my current work.  Sorry!  I’ll be caught up in the next month (although there is SOOOO many interesting things I’ve photographed since May so stay tuned…that said, here’s one of my latest clients….

This is the fourth year I’ve photographed the E’s. I’ve watched their little boy grow up and their little girl being born. I really do love working with my clients so that we really do feel like friends. The kids feel more comfortable and it’s so much easier for me. It really makes me love my job so much more. This time we get to see the newest addition to the family…little S. So adorable and I think it’s funny when clients ask if they can bring their dog because I’m such a dog nut and we have 2 BIG dogs on top of our already crazy life!

I’m ALWAYS excited when I can get siblings under 4 together, both looking and smiling.
Moms and dads with cameras and the photogs that are reading this know that’s sort of an elusive shot!
I included this because I remember when each of my kids used to try and EAT ME for kisses and I thought it was the most adorable thing and they don’t do it for that long!

Again, most of those that know me, know that I love the simple not posey posey pics. Kids really being themselves, looking, exploring and just being. I think those are some of the most beautiful pics.
One on my cousins once said to me that she looked back on some pics I had snapped of her son and she realized she didn’t have any profile shots except the ones I had taken and she was so glad later that she could remember this. I really believe even if you don’t have me take your pics, you should be taking the not just posed and smiling pics because that’s not always who the child is and you miss out on those little memories from this time.
I was so proud of the newest addition sitting still when we all know there a millions of things that puppies like to do besides sitting still for pics!

Sometimes, I wonder if people will get my “vision”. I LOVED this pic because little A was so worried about his new puppy. Anytime the dog left or ran to play, little A was watching and asking mom and dad. What a blessing the E’s have given him to grow up with such a wonderful dog. Personally, I think that’s one of the best gifts you can give a child…but I’m really a dog person!

Here’s the E’s

Meet the R’s (well again)

If I was to have my perfect dream, it would include photographing the same 100 or so families over and over, year after year.
Kind of a getting paid to hang out with my friends and give them wonderful memories of their families.
The R’s would be on the top of my list. Everytime I think our time together will be so hard, because they have 4 kids that are so young and everytime I am shocked with how well behaved they are. This time we were extra lucky to meet great-grandpa who told me that the newest member of the family and him are almost exactly 90 years apart. INCREDIBLE!

Lastly, I want to show you something so FUN I learned from shooting weddings. The funny face picture. I LOVE IT! Thanks Jenica ( http://www.lemondropsphotography.com/ )…it’s in here, I promise!

Whew, that was quick! :)

I love the L’s, this is my 3rd time with them an their family. I have to admit, thought, it’s a challenging session. Although,
I think any session with multiples is challenging. They have 1 year old boy twins, a 3 year old and 5 year old sister. So, this type of session is where my wrangling skills come in to play. Also, these sessions tend to be quicker because there is only so long that 4 children can play and be happy! I am surprised with all of my clients with many small children, how well behaved the kids are. Maybe part of that is that I’m comfortable and don’t get easily flustered, but I also think that they must share more often because there are more of them and they learn that lesson sooner than others…just a thought!

Good friends, a park and a-wwwaaaaaaay we go!

I thought this session would be sooo easy because the weather was good, there would be no dad (no offense to dads that are easy at picture taking, but most I’ve met want it done as quickly as possible) and we chose beautiful gardens…oh, and mom is just one of the nicest people that you’ve ever met and we’ve been friends for awhile now. Lastly, grandma came along…now WHAT could go wrong?

It seems as soon as I become tooo confident, I find a hurdle. C and J really didn’t want too much to do w/ me. It never occurred to me that the gardens would be waaaaay more interesting that me and that every plant / water garden was really something to be explored and not just to be looked at. So while making sure to not offend any of the volunteers (J you know the inside joke here), we poked and proded our way along. I should say, I ran following, trying to catch them and get some great pictures. :)

All in all it was fun and I think we caught more great interaction w/ mom than anything. I wish I had pictures like these of me and my kids!!
Hope you enjoy!

A lifetime of pictures…

I have been taking this family’s pictures since the oldest girl was mommy’s bump. I love working with them. This family has such great connections and those connections are what makes it worth it to me.  Have I told you lately, I LOVE my job!

Friends helping me scout….

Last week I took the kids to Seward park.  I was thinking it would be a backup location for the mother’s mini-sessions.   The mottled light was a bit hard to work with as was trying to watch 5 kids while we took pictures.  This was just a few quick snapshots, but I hope Denise likes them.

No one ever believes me! Now I have proof!

Show me some twin love!

Is this a twin thing? An identical twin thing? They’ve never seemed to have that “bond” that so many people ask about. They’ve pretty much beat the crap out of each other since day 1. Now I have the video to prove it!

Quiet on the homefront…a couple of my babies

I enjoyed having some time off in December.  It always rejuvenates me to put the camera down for a little bit and then pick it up again.  I forget how important it is to take a few pics a few times per week to capture how quickly they grow.    Next weekend I’m back in the swing again (and really looking forward to it!!)img_85102

Do you believe she’s only 19 months?  I saw the crazy “post ponytail” hair and had to get a pic.

My baby boy.  So sweet and finally to the age where he poses (still even) for the camera.  Next time I’ll show you the “scary man” face….

Sweet baby girl (unless you aren’t looking and she knocks her sister on the head w/ her sippy cup).

This is the simple part of our lives.  Imagine the extra 3 year old boy, plus the girls running in either direction.  Crazy, crazy, crazy, but I love our crazy lives.

Thanks for reading!  Hope you enjoyed the pics.

The J’s and Renton Mom’s Group

Well, I don’t usually do volunteer work.  It’s not that I don’t enjoy it or think that’s a waste of time (quite the contrary).  It’s just that we are beginning to get out of the beautiful wash of children that we’ve been given in the last couple of years.  I’m hoping when they are out of diapers I can give more regularly (and focus on my business more).  But, this Easter,  Renton Mom’s Group on meetup.com had their 2nd annual Easter bash and as a fundraiser the members were asked to donate something if they could.  I donated a free session, including the pics a couple of prints and a wallet sized book that includes 10 pics for mommy’s purse.

I felt like I’ve been such a deadbeat with this group the last year because we were trying to keep our home peaceful and this was an easy way for me to help.  I was also happy to hear one of my good friends M won the raffle for the prize.  So, in typical Leya style I processed too many pics because I loved her family.

I was warned the kids might not cooperate (they are just 13 months apart and these ARE difficult ages), but also in my style we didn’t pose much and just kinda let the kids loose.  I had a blast and I think they did too.

I sent M a slideshow last night, but she is in Venezuela now so I hope you guys aren’t seeing the pictures before she does.

Enjoy (you can always click on each pic to see it BIG):

RMG is a closed group right now, but maybe in the future it’ll open up again.  I feel like I have REALLY benefited from such a tight knit, giving, loving, and non-judgemental group of mommy’s.

One of my favorite little models

One of my dearest friends and her adorable little boy.  I have been taking his pictures since he was a bump.

He’s just adorable and so easy to work with.  Mom’s also an easy target as well! :)   The pics are not posed.  We just went to the park and let little C play.  I followed and just captured what I saw as everything about him that was 2!

There were soooo many great pictures.  I couldn’t make up my mind. Here’s a few:

Hope you like them: (you can always click on the pics to see them BIG …. like they were meant to be seen!!!)

Wow, he’s sooo fast!!

I’ve known J for a long time. Her son has grown into such a little man, ADORABLE! But from a photographer’s perspective… I’ve forgotten those beginning toddler stages. You remember, the “you can’t catch me”. I really spent a bit more than an hour TRYING to catch D, but he was -=FAST!!!

Mommy\'s lil man!
Did she tell you she’s expecting?  CONGRATULATIONS J!!!
